lauren robertson
Lauren Robertson is a self-taught landscape artist working intuitively with texture and muted palettes. Her practice is informed by a family lineage of self-taught artists, where learning was passed through observation and making rather than formal instruction. She sees her work as a continuation of that tradition by being rooted, instinctive and quietly evolving.
Each piece begins with a layering process that builds both texture and story. She applies gesso and modeling paste to create a textured foundation. Through underpainting, she establishes the rhythm of color and form before developing the scene with acrylics. Finally, she uses oil pastels to highlight and emphasize the luminous qualities of the landscape, bringing a sense of vitality to the finished work.
She finds inspiration in nature’s constant motion. Light shifts, leaves fall, waves crash. Landscape painting captures these fleeting moments. It becomes a meditation on impermanence.
And yet again, in a world with so much disconnection, landscapes serve as a form of grounding. A return to what is real and enduring.
Lauren earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Ohio Wesleyan University and Masters in Public Health from the University of Georgia. She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and currently resides in Richmond, VA with her husband and three boys.
Her work is available for purchase online and featured locally at Revival and Gramercy Collective.
